Hiring your child can be soo beneficial to your business & you because it allows you to use your business to pay for expenses for your children such as private school, dance class, sports fees, etc.
___
The IRS allows you to NOT pay the payroll taxes on them. It would be essentially the same as hiring a VA or 1099 worker – no taxes.
___
There ARE age limits and the child has to be able to actually work…around 7 years old and under 18 but some taxes are excluded up to 21.
.
Here is how it can work. Hire your child to take photos and videos of you working. The child can edit them…kids are usually better at this tech stuff anyway.
__
Write your photographer (your child) a check and deposit into the child’s bank account. Since they are a minor, you have to be on the account too.
__
Use the money from that account (paid to your child from your business as a tax deduction for photo/video services) to pay for private school, dance classes, sports fees, etc.
.
That, my friends, is how THEY do it 🙂
.
Guess who’s 12-year-old son will be on payroll this summer as a photographer/videographer?
__
Waiting until this summer because we currently are getting ready for a dance competition and don’t get home until after 9pm and we have homework and I’m not paying him for work he isn’t doing 🙂
